Adobe Reader alternative Sumatra PDF

For ages I use Adobe Reader for .PDF files and never ever think about an alternative. At the beginning, in 1994 there was not any. Afterwards I used to use Adobe Reader. From version to version it become bigger and bigger, slower and slower but I did not care.

Yesterday, one of the users cannot work because his computer got stuck under Word, Outlook 2007, F-Secure plus Adobe Reader 9.2. I cannot change a policy of the company to change the anti-virus or bloody Office 2007. But I can chage PDF reader.

3 sec googling I have found Sumatra PDF

My first thoughts was: “It will not work. It is too small to open PDF” :) 1.4 Mb vs 26.2 Mb Adobe Reader. I was wrong it works perfeclty well and fast. Plus for me is the great advantage that Sumatra PDF is Open Source project

I installed Sumatra PDF on two computers and I will see how it will go. Only I have to change the icon of Sumatra PDF to usual one to avoid the very long explanations with users.

stop start service in command line Windows

net stop [service name]
net start [service name]

e.g. set NTP server for W32Time

net stop W32Time
net time /setsntp:"192.168.100.100 192.168.101.101"
net start W33Time

The exact name of service you can find:

Start | Run… | services.msc | right click on the service | Properties | Service Name
or
Start | Run… | regedit.exe | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Just the excellence. I have tried to find any defects or uncomfortabilities but could not. Only I like the default background 9.04 more but that I will not count.

InfraRecorder vs Lenovo MultiMedia Center

Open Source, much smaller (3 Mb instad of 139 Mb for MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings), appears faster (only the splash screen in MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings takes 1-2 sec) and the most important it does not check too much is it running on Lenovo or not.

As well, it does what I expect from a burning / recording application it makes .iso and writes .iso

Lenovo is not Lenovo for MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings

Working with Lenovo ThinkCentre M55 (8804-61G) I have downloaded “MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings for Windows XP and 2000” from Lenovo site and for Lenovo 8804
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66042

Run it and I have got “This program can only be use on IBM or Lenovo hardware” it is quite irritating, isn’t it?
